The easy strawberry sauce we put on everything.
This simple strawberry sauce is such a hit in our house. I always add it to my yogurt in the mornings, but have also served it over ice cream, french toast, and even just a regular piece of crusty bread. You can even add it to your sweet tea, tonic water, or other beverages!
Ingredients:
5 Cups Frozen Strawberries (4 cups if using fresh since they can pack down a little tighter)
2 Cups Water
3/4 Cup Sugar
2 teaspoons vanilla
Steps:
Bring strawberries (no need to thaw), water and sugar to a boil in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Stir occasionally to dissolve sugar.
Once boiling, reduce heat to low and simmer (uncovered) for 20 minutes. Stir occasionally, but this does not require a lot of babysitting.
After simmering, remove from heat, add vanilla.
Allow to cool slightly, then blend the sauce with an immersion blender or carefully transfer to a blender and mix until smooth.
Transfer to a bottle or jar, and store in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.
Notes:
I haven’t tried this with other fruits, but I’m sure it would be delicious with blueberries or mixed fruits if that's what you have on hand. You might want to adjust the sugar ration depending on the sweetness (or lack thereof) of your fruit.
Fresh berries are also fine to use here, I just like the convenience of frozen berries and prefer to keep my fresh fruits for snacking and other uses.
